Zahedan (zähādän`), city (1991 pop. 361,623), capital of Sistan and Baluchistan prov., SE Iran, near the borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan. One of Iran's poorer cities, Zahedan is a road junction and the terminus of a railroad that runs into Pakistan.
Zahedan 

a city in southeast Iran. Population, 42,000 (1971). Zahedan is linked by a railroad branch with the net-work of Pakistan and by highways (through Mashhad and Kerman) with Tehran and the port of Bandar Abbas on the Strait of Hormuz. The city has an airport. A vegetable oil manufacturer, a mill, and an elevator, which was built with the assistance of the USSR, are also located there. It is a commercial center for almonds and dried fruit.

ISLAMABAD, October 27, 2009 (Balochistan Times): A five-member media delegation from Iran representing Iran Daily, Tehran Times and Zahidan Morning called on Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday.
Iran has also expressed its interest to build a dedicated 1000MW gas power plant at Zahidan near Pakistan border for export of power to Pakistan.
Gul Ahmad, who has been deported, said: "I was working in brick kiln in Zahidan province of Iran, police came and took me with five other workers and handed us over to border security forces" Gul Ahmad, resident of Faryab province added he had 45000 afghanis with his manager, he begged police to let him get his money, but police did not care and deported him.
