Eliminating leading zeros for readability. For example, 00000001542 becomes 1542.

zero suppression [′zir·ō sə′presh·ən]

(computer science)

A process of replacing leading (nonsignificant) zeros in a numeral by blanks; it is an editing operation designed to make computable numerals easily readable to the human eye.
