Zograf, Nikolai Georgievich 

Born Feb. 27 (Mar.12), 1909, in Moscow; died there Mar. 25, 1968. Soviet theater scholar. Became a member of the CPSU in 1944. Doctor of the arts (1953).

Zograf attended the Higher State Courses in the Arts in Leningrad from 1928 to 1930. Upon graduation from the department of literature and art of Moscow University in 1931, he began his literary career. An editor of the Art Publishing House from 1936 to 1946, he became a senior research worker at the Institute of the History of the Arts in 1945. Zograf, a scholar and researcher, published a number of works about the history of the Russian theater during the 19th and early 20th century. These include The Malyi Theater of the Second Half of the 19th Century (1960) and The Malyi Theater During the Late 19th and Early 20th Century (1966). Zograf also wrote about the Soviet theater of the 1920’s and 1930’s—for example, E. B. Vakhtangov (1947). Zograf s works are based on extensive source materials.
