Zozulia, Fedor Vladimirovich 

Born Oct. 27 (Nov. 9), 1907, in Stavropol’; died Apr. 21, 1964, in Moscow. Soviet military commander, admiral (1955). Became a member of the CPSU in 1938.

Zozulia joined the navy in 1925 and graduated from the M. V. Frunze Naval School in 1928 and from the Naval Academy in 1934; he served in the Baltic Fleet and in the naval department of the General Staff. From 1939 to 1941, Zozulia was chief of staff of the Caspian Military Flotilla, deputy chief of staff of the Baltic Fleet, and commander of the Kronstadt naval base. He was appointed chief of staff of the White Sea Military Flotilla in December 1941. In the Great Patriotic War (1941–45), Zozulia participated in the covering of the crossing of the fleet from Tallinn to Kronstadt and in the defense of Leningrad, was deputy chief of the Operations Directorate of the Main Naval Staff from 1943 to 1944, and was appointed commander of the Caspian Military Flotilla in September 1944. He served as chief of staff of the Baltic Fleet in 1946–47 and chief of the directorate of the Main Staff of the Navy in 1947. Zozulia was commander of the Baltic Fleet (from July 1947 to February 1950), chief of the Krylov Naval Academy (1950–53), deputy chief of the General Staff (1953–58), and chief of the Main Staff of the Navy and first deputy commander in chief of the Navy (1958–64). He was awarded the Order of Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner, two Orders of the Red Star, and medals.
