Zuev, Vladimir Evseevich
Born Jan. 29, 1925, in the village of Malye Goly, Kachug Raion, Irkutsk Oblast. Soviet physicist; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970). Member of the CPSU since 1945. Graduated from the University of Tomsk in 1951. From 1955 to 1969 he worked in the Siberian Physicotechnical Institute, and in 1969 he became the director of the Institute of Atmospheric Optics of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Since 1951 he has also been teaching at the University of Tomsk (professor since 1964). Zuev’s main work has been in atmospheric optics and physics. He has developed a number of methods of estimating the energy loss of waves in the optical range in the atmosphere, particularly the absorption and scattering of laser radiation by atmospheric gases and aerosols. He was a deputy to the eighth convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and medals.
