Zuppke, (Robert Carl) Bob (1879–1957) football coach; born in Berlin, Germany. The Zuppke family immigrated to Milwaukee in 1881. Although a football sub in high school and the University of Wisconsin, he became a successful high school coach. He coached the University of Illinois (1913–41) to four national championships and seven Western Conference titles. He developed many great players, including “Red” Grange.
