A top-level Internet domain used by the adult entertainment industry. Introduced in 2011, the .xxx domain was added to identify sexually explicit websites; however, nothing stops a sex-oriented site from using .com or any other domain. See Internet domain name.

US colleges buying up XXX domain names to prevent porn-site confusion

Scottsdale, AZ, September 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- .XXX is a new TLD designed especially for the adult entertainment industry.

.XXX is specifically reserved for members of the online adult entertainment industry however trade mark owners will be allowed to block third parties from registering .XXX domain names that match their trade marks.

.XXX Domain Sunrise Phases Now Open at HostDomainZone.com

After more than a decade of debate, rejections and legal challenges, the Internet's governing body today began accepting applications for .xxx websites from the adult entertainment industry.

Company ICM Registry first proposed the .xxx domain in 2000, as well as .kids website addresses, though the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) rejected both ideas.
