The file format is posted on the site along with instructions for uploading the file to the FTP site, transferring it by modem to the PSI host machine, or recording it to
9-track magnetic tape.
Rather than consign the results of this enormous project to a storage medium that may prove as ephemeral as
9-track magnetic tape, it has been committed to acid-free paper, which should ensure its accessibility (and even computer readability) for hundreds of years.

Open-reel
9-track tapes or 3480-type cassettes are the most common media used in the largest of the legacy systems.
