While there is no proven treatment for
AFM, early diagnosis is critical to getting patients the best care possible, according to a Vital Signs report released today.
This report summarizes and updates surveillance data for suspected cases of
AFM reported to CDC (9), with onset of flaccid limb weakness from January 1 through December 31, 2018.
AFM is a rare but serious disease that attacks the spinal cord, causing the muscles and reflexes in the body to become weak.
The researchers found that among 374 reported cases of
AFM from January through December 2018, 62, 7, and 31 percent of cases were classified as confirmed, probable, and non-AFM, respectively.

Though
AFM's AC-47 is not the original gunship on which Levitow served, it is one of approximately 40 in the world that remain flyable.
This event will also include an
AFM workshop at the new Park NanoScience Center at SUNY Polytechnic, an evening cocktail networking reception and an
AFM image contest.
