Abzug, Bella

Abzug, Bella (b. Savitsky)

(1920–  ) U.S. representative; born in New York City. She was a civil rights lawyer (1944–70) and director of Women Strike for Peace (1961–70) before going to Congress (1971–77). Well known for both her outspoken views and outsize hats, she was an unsuccessful senatorial and mayoral candidate.
