Agrimonia

a genus of plants of the family Rosaceae. The perennial rhizomatous herbs have glandular-pubescent stems and oddly pinnate leaves. The pentamerous, yellow flowers are in long spicate racemes. The fruit consists of one or two nutlike sections and is covered with hooked bristles. Upon ripening, the fruits hook onto animal fur and clothing.

There are approximately 15 species of Agrimonia, distributed primarily in the temperate zone of the northern hemisphere. The USSR has six to eight species. The common agrimony (A. eupatorio) grows in the European USSR and the Caucasus amid the underbrush, in thinned forests, along the edges of forests, in meadows, and along roads and fences. Its green parts contain tannins and yellow dyestuffs.
