In 1891 the British Museum was offered a collection of gold ornaments that were said to have come from the Greek island of
Aigina. Even though there was no definite provenance for the treasure, the museum bought it the next spring.
155, 157) included capital C among examples of early stone capitals with metal necking-ornaments; he did not assign a specific date to capital C, but according to his developmental scheme, such capitals should precede the Archaic capital at Tiryns and the capitals of the earlier Temple of Aphaia on
Aigina (ca.
94) adds a fragmentary inscription of unknown type from Piraeus (IG [I.sup.3] 242) and the first epigram on the Monument of the Persian War epigrams (IG [I.sup.3] 503/4), all attributed to the "Hekatompedon Master"; (3) DAA 85 (signed by Kalon of
Aigina), 86, 87; (4) DAA 349-353, 357, 358 (all marble perirrhanteria dedicated by Onesimos); Jeffery adds another fragment of a perirrhanterion, IG [I.sup.3] 933; (5) DAA 112, 369, the Tyrannicides base in the Athenian Agora (IG [I.sup.3] 502), and the Leagros dedication in the Agora (IG [I.sup.3] 951); (6) DAA 298 and IG [I.sup.3] 1018 (both herms signed by Euphron of Paros).
Similar complex house plans, consisting of a corridor giving access to one or more rooms, are apparent at Onythe Goulediana (rooms A, B, E, H),
Aigina (houses 2 and 3), and Corinth (house 1).
Places where this would be especially worthwhile are Mycenae, Tiryns, Asine, Amyklai, Epidauros, Delphi,
Aigina, and Ayia Triada at Ayios Vassilios.
(91.) In her masterful publication of the "shaft-grave" tomb at Kolonna on
Aigina, including a comparative study of high-status MH tombs, KilianDirlmeier (Alt-Agina IV.3) shows that as early as MH II there emerged elite burials with exotic and luxury artifacts similar to grave goods, yet distinctive.
