Bach-Liimand, Aino Gustav

 

BornDec. 1 (14), 1901, in the village of Koeru, now in the Estonian SSR. Soviet graphic artist; People’s Artist of the Estonian SSR (1961). Member of the CPSU since 1944.

Bach-Liimand studied at the Pallas Higher School of Art in Tartu (1934–35). She painted portraits characterized by love of mankind and genre subjects. Bach-Liimand also illustrated the works of Estonian writers using various engraving techniques (The Sleeping Child, a drypoint, 1955; and others). Bach-Liimand won the State Prize of the Estonian SSR (1947), as well as three others and a medal.
