Bab, Al-

 

a city in the muhafiza of Aleppo, Syria. Population, 21,400 (1970). Linked by highway with the city of Aleppo, al-Bab is the commercial center of an agricultural region in which grains and cotton are cultivated and sheep are raised. Crafts that are practiced in the city include the production of fabrics and carpets.
