Jufrah, Al-

 

a group of oases in Libya, at the northern foot of the Jabal al-Sawda, or Black Mountains. Population, about 12,000 (1964). Al-Jufrah is located at the junction of roads leading to the Mediterranean and to the Sahara. There are date palms, orchards, and vegetable gardens. The oases are also a center for trade.
