Salt, Al-
a city in northwestern Jordan and the capital of the liwa (province) of al-Balqa. Population, 19,000 (1970). Connected by a highway with Amman, al-Salt is the commercial center of an agricultural region dominated by grape growing and wine-making. Handicrafts are produced in the city.
