a city, the center of Alagir Raion, North Ossetian ASSR. It is situated on the Ardon River (where it leaves the mountains) and on the Voenno-Osetinskaia Road. Alagir is the terminal on the branch from Darg-Kokha on the Armavir-Baku railroad line. Population in 1966, 14,900. The city is the site of wood-processing, construction materials, and food-industry enterprises, the North Caucasian Forestry Technicum, and a museum of local lore. Tamisk Resort, which has hydrogen sulphide springs, is near Alagir. Lead and zinc ores (deposits at Sadon) and cement marls are mined, and there are forestry industries in the area.
