Aldan Layer

 

(named after the Aldan River in Eastern Siberia), the lowest layer of the Cambrian system. This layer was discovered by N. P. Suvorova and G. F. Gurari in 1954. It is characterized by a complex of trilobites of the Olenellidae family and by Archaeocyatha, chiolites, and primitive brachiopods. It is found everywhere in Siberia (marine carbonate deposits); corresponding layers are known in Europe, non-Soviet Asia (the Chinese People’s Republic), Australia, Africa (Morocco), and North America.
