Amundsen Depression
a depression in the Arctic Ocean between the Lomonosov and Gakkel’ ridges. It is about 2,000 km long and 200–400 km wide. The maximum depth is 4,321 m. The thickness of sedimentary deposits is up to 2,000 m. The silt on the sea bottom consists of a mixture of iron, manganese, and clay. The depression was named after R. Amundsen.
