Born Mar. 12. 1887; died June 12,1959. Soviet historian; doctor of historical sciences (1940); professor (1945). Graduated from the University of St. Petersburg in 1916.
In 1913, Andreev began work on the Permanent Historical Commission of the Academy of Sciences. From the 1930’s through the 1950’s, he worked in the Institute of History and the Historical Archives Institute. He was a specialist in the history of Siberia and the author of works on the history of Russian geographical discoveries in the northern Arctic and Pacific oceans, including The Expeditions of V. Bering and The Role of the Russian Fleet in Geographical Discoveries of the 18th, 19th, and 20th Centuries. He also wrote on the history of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and on Russian science (works on V. N. Tatishchev, M. V. Lomo-nosov, and others). Andreev published a number of important historical sources, including Letters and Papers of Peter the Great (vol. 7, issue 2; vol. 8, issue 1), some works of M. V. Lomonosov, and geographical works and letters of V. N. Tatishchev.
