Android market share
As of 2021, Android's market share of smartphones is approximately 75% worldwide. Combined, Androids and iPhones make up 98% of the smartphone market. The reason Android is predominant is because dozens of manufacturers make Android phones compared to only one company, Apple, which makes the iPhone. Also, while Samsung's flagship phones can cost more than $1,000, there are Android phones for as little as $50. Apple's least expensive iPhone is generally $399.
Android Set the Bar for Bigger
In addition to price, for the first seven years smartphones were on the market (2007 to 2014), iPhones had relatively small screens, while Android models were offered with much larger displays. As the smartphone market exploded, people enjoyed the larger screen real estate, which today is commonplace. Apple's first iPhone with a large screen was the iPhone 6 in 2014. Given the popularity of Google's Android operating system and the fact that Samsung owns the majority of the
Android market share, it apears to be a good idea for the company to focus on enterprise mobility, especially at a time when the bring your own device (BYOD) trend is being seriously considered by enterprises.
If the trend continues, and the smartphone market continues to expand (which it will for the foreseeable future), then we could be looking at an
Android market share of 90 per cent by the end of 2013.
