Fofanov worked in Moscow from 1608 to 1618. He devised the Nikita typeface, which was widely used during the first half of the 17th century. Fofanov’s first known publication was the General Monthly Readings (1609). During the period of the Polish and Swedish intervention, Fofanov moved his “printing cottage” to Nizhny Novgorod. There he published the Record of the Nizhny Novgorod Press (1613), which recounted the events of the Time of Troubles of the early 17th century. In Moscow, Fofanov published the Psalter (1615) and Church Songs for Eight Voices (1618).
