Anthes, Richard (Allen)
(1944– ) meteorologist; born in St. Louis, Mo. Resident meteorologist at the National Hurricane Research Laboratory (1968–71), he taught at Pennsylvania State University (1971–81) before going to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). In 1988, he became president of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, umbrella organization of NCAR. His work on computer modeling of the atmosphere improved meteorologists' ability to understand climate and predict weather events.
