Apia

 

capital of Western Samoa (in the Pacific Ocean). Population in 1966, 25,500. Port on the northern shore of Upolu Island, through which the country’s foreign trade operations are conducted. Copra, bananas, and cacao beans are exported. Apia’s harbor serves as an anchorage for transpacific vessels. The Apia airport has international importance.
