This research aims to identify the image of Romanian Gypsies, as it is presented in the local newspapers Curierul Zilei and Argesul Liber in Arges County.
222 articles on Romanian Gypsies were identified, of which 126 were in Curierul Zilei and 96 in Argesul Liber.
"Argesul Liber" is 10.8% less aggressive, but the irony of certain actions against Romanian gypsies is more common.
In Argesul Liber the balance between discriminative-non-discriminative photographs is of 21to 26 photos, which shows a desire to introduce more than Romanian gypsies' identifiers in the text of the press.
Therefore the chosen sample is composed of 12 editions of two local publications, the oldest ones, "Argesul" and "Curierul Zilei", from 2012.
To illustrate the image of the local printed media market several names are presented: "Ancheta", "Top", "Obiectiv Arge?ean", "Arge?eanul", "Jurnalul de Arge?", "Profit" along with the two analysed ones: "Curierul Zilei" and "Argesul".
"Argesul Liber" uses several slogans to present its identity: "The only Quality newspaper in Arge?"; "Information, analysis and business publication in Arge?"; "Read Argesul--the first and most credible local news paper in Arge?!".
Meanwhile, the same year, in "Argesul" the proportions were 63, 75% for the text and 10, 75% for the pictures and illustrations.
In what it concerns the advertising-text rapport the situation was as as following: for "Curierul Zilei", in 2012 the higher percent was for the publicity (69, 06%) comparing with "Argesul" where the situation leans in the favour of text (73, 4%).
