Artem Island

Artem Island

 

an island in the Caspian Sea, 50 km from Baku. Linked by a dike with the Apsheron Peninsula. Area, about 10 sq km. The city of Artem-Ostrov (population, 14,400 in 1969) is located on the island. The island is linked with Baku by an electrified railroad. There is extraction of petroleum. Artem Island is named for Artem (F. A. Sergeev).
