Born Apr. 2, 1915, in Yokohama. Japanese political figure.
Asukata began practicing law in 1939, after graduating from the law school of Meiji University. From 1953 to 1963 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the Japanese Diet. He served as the mayor of Yokohama from 1963 to 1978. In 1962 he became a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Socialist Party of Japan. Asukata became deputy chairman of the committee in December 1974 and chairman in December 1977.
