On the northwestern border of VA, west of Charlottesville; organized Aug 1, 1738 from Orange County. Part annexed to Waynesboro (independent) city effective July 1, 1994. Name Origin: For Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha (1719?-72), mother of George III of England
