Autio, Rudy

Autio, Rudy

(1926–  ) ceramist; born in Butte, Mont. With an M.F.A. from Washington State University, he became professor of ceramics and sculpture in 1957 at the University of Montana in Missoula. While his early pots reflected abstract expressionism, he is best known for his later figurative work. On anthropomorphic clay forms he superimposed improvisational drawings of women, landscapes, and animals to pictorialize the vessels.
