BL Lacertae objects

(astronomy)
A class of extragalactic sources of extremely intense, highly variable electromagnetic radiation which are related to quasars but have a featureless optical spectrum, and display strong optical polarization and a radio spectrum that increases in intensity at shorter wavelengths.
