Baba Feghani

Baba Feghani

 

(nicknamed Little Hafiz). Year of birth unknown; died 1516 or 1519. Iranian poet-lyricist. Son of a knife-maker from Shiz.

Baba Feghani was the court poet of Husain Bayqara (1459–1506), then of Sultan Yaqub-Bey Ak-Koyunlu (died 1491). He received the honorific “father of poets” (babaye shuara). A collection of his poems is still extant.
