Baba Tahir Uryan

 

Born about 1000; died after 1055. Iranian poet and mystic. He wrote in the Lur dialect. His quatrains (called dubayt) are permeated with an ecstatic striving to attain divinity as the final truth (haq) and reveal the injustice of this world. The enduring popularity of Baba Tahir Uryan’s poetry resulted in many dubayt and Rubaiyat stanzas written in other dialects and classical Persian being ascribed to him. The simplicity and naturalness of the imagery in his poems make them resemble folklore. He wrote theological treatises in Arabic.
