BackWeb

An Internet delivery platform from BackWeb Technologies, Inc., San Jose, CA. Introduced in 1996 when the Internet became public, BackWeb provided a platform for companies to establish channels that pushed content to their customers, such as news, stock quotes and software upgrades. It also allowed users to work with Web-based applications when they were offline. In 2014, the company went into voluntary liquidation. See push technology.
