Baiati

 

a genre of Azerbaijani folk songs, usually lyrical.

Baiati are based on a strictly defined poetic form—seven-beat lines, grouped in four-line stanzas. Baiati are performed by gusans and ashugs (folk poets and singers) to the accompaniment of the tar, kemancha, and saz.
