Bakharden

 

an urban-type settlement and center of Bakharden Raion, Turkmen SSR. With a railroad station 101 km northwest of Ashkhabad, it has a population of 7,400 (1968). Bakharden has a rug factory and a national-costume (keteni) factory. There is a people’s theater. Lake Kou-Ata is located 19 km south of Bakharden in a deep cavern that is a popular tourist attraction.
