Balkhar

 

a Lak settlement in Akusha Raion, Dagestan ASSR. It is an ancient center of artistic folk ceramics. Un-glazed pitchers, mugs, bowls, and other vessels are decorated mainly with fine white designs such as wavy lines, striae, dots, rosettes, and spirals. Balkhar’s other handicraft include the modeling of clay toys and the weaving of woolen pileless rugs.
