Barber, Edwin Atlee
(1851–1916) archaeologist; born in Baltimore, Md. While a West Philadelphia postmaster and Ph.D. student, he became the country's leading authority on ceramics. He was ceramics curator (1901–07) and director (1907–16) of the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Arts, Philadelphia. He published numerous standard works on ancient and modern ceramics.
