Bataisk

 

a city (until 1938, a stanitsa) in Rostov Oblast, RSFSR. It is a large railroad junction 11 km south of Rostov-on-Don, with which it is also connected by a bus service. Population, 91,000 (1969). There are railroad transport enterprises and machine-repair and parts-assembly factories; Bataisk has building-material, food, and other light industries. There is a railroad transport technicum.
