Bear Head Lake State Park
Location:From the town of Tower, 9 miles east on US 169 to County Highway 128, then south 7 miles.
Facilities:73 drive-in campsites (26 with electric hookups), showers (é), flush
toilets (é), 4 backpack campsites, canoe campsite, 2 canoe-in/boat-in
campsites, group camp, camper cabin, guest house, hiking trails (17
miles), ski trail (9 miles), snowmobile trail (1 mile), picnic area,
picnic shelter (é), swimming beach, boat ramp, fishing pier (é),
boat and canoe/kayak rental, gift shop.
Activities:Camping, swimming, lake and stream fishing, boating, canoeing, hiking,
cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, wildlife viewing.
Special Features:Park is located in the secluded Northwoods, with pristine lakes and
stands of white and red pines that tower over the birch, aspen, and fir
trees. Wildlife at the park include black bears, nesting eagles, timber
wolves, and moose. The park is just south of the Boundary Waters Canoe
Area, and its trails link up with Taconite State Trail.
