a mountain range in eastern Queen Maude Land (East Antarctica). Located 300 km from the shore of the Riiser-Larsen Sea.
The Belgica mountain range stretches from north to south for a distance of 40 km in the form of individual peaks rising to heights of 100–300 m above the surface of the ice shield. The absolute elevation of these mountains exceeds 2,000 m (Mt. Victor—2,588 m). They were formed by gneisses and crystalline schists. The mountains were discovered in 1958 by a Belgian antarctic expedition and were named after the ship used for the Belgian antarctic expedition of 1897–99, led by A. Gerlache.
