Benedetti Michelangeli, Arturo

 

Born Jan. 5, 1920, in Brescia. Italian pianist. In 1934 he graduated from the Milan Conservatory (he was a pupil of G. Anfossi), and in 1939 he received first prize at the International Competition of Performing Musicians in Geneva. He was a professor of the Bologna and Venice conservatories. He now directs the school of piano in Bolzano and annually conducts a special course in Arezzo which is attended by young pianists from many countries. He is one of the greatest contemporary pianists. In 1964 he performed on tour in the USSR.
