Foerstrová-Lautererová graduated from the Prague Conservatory. She was a soloist at the opera theaters in Prague (1887–93), Hamburg (1893–1901), and Vienna (1901–13). She created leading roles in the operas of B. Smetana, A. Dvorak, and J. B. Foerster, her husband. Her best portrayals were of Wagnerian roles. Her wide vocal range allowed her to sing even mezzo-soprano parts, such as the title role in Bizet’s Carmen. Tchaikovsky highly praised her performance as Tatiana in Eugene Onegin.
