Besed’
a river in Byelorussian SSR and Briansk and Smolensk oblasts of the RSFSR; it is the left tributary of the Sozh River (Dnieper basin). It is 261 km long and drains a basin of 5,600 sq km. At its mouth, the average year-round discharge is 27.8 cu m per sec. It is navigable below the settlement of Krasnaia Gora (98 km from its estuary).
