In north-central LA, southeast of Shreveport; organized Mar 14, 1848 from Claiborne Parish. Name Origin: For Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville (1680-1765?), founder of New Orleans (1718) and governor of the French colony of Louisiana (1701-13; 1718-26; 1733-43)
