Bitterfeld

 

a city in the German Democratic Republic; in Halle District (Bezirk), on the Mulde River. Population, 30,600 (1967). Lignite is mined. There is a large electrochemical combine, heavy machinery production, and a ther-malelectric power plant with a capacity of over 200 megawatts.
