Blau, Peter M. (Michael)
(1918– ) sociologist; born in Vienna, Austria. He emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1939. A Columbia University Ph.D., he taught at the University of Chicago (1953–70), Columbia (1977–88), and the University of North Carolina (1970–77, 1988). A specialist in organizational and social structure, particularly bureaucracy, he wrote among other works Exchange and Power in Social Life (1964) and The American Occupational Structure (1967).
