Farmakovskii, Boris Vladimirovich

 

Born Jan. 31 (Feb. 12), 1870, in Viatka (now Kirov); died July 29, 1928, in Pargolovo, Leningrad Oblast. Soviet archaeologist specializing in Greek and Roman art and archaeology and the archaeology of the northern Black Sea region. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences (1914).

Farmakovskii conducted excavations of Olbia, which proved to be a model of archaeological investigation of a classical city. He established the boundaries of the city, the defensive system, and the layout of the streets and structures. He also conducted archaeological investigations in Kiev, Evpatoriia (Cercinitis), and elsewhere.
