Boyd, William (Bill)

(1898–1972) movie actor, producer; born in Cambridge, Ohio. He worked at odd jobs until landing his first film role as an extra in Why Change Your Wife? (1920). A favorite of Cecil B. DeMille, he revived his faltering career when he played Hopalong Cassidy in a series of popular Westerns. He bought the rights to the character and revived him on television in the 1950s.
