Papyriflavonol A from
Broussonetia papyrifera inhibits the passive cutaneous anaphylaxis reaction and has a secretory phospholipase A2-inhibitory activity.
As well as Colocasia esculenta, microfossils of Ipomoea batatas, Lagenaria siceraria (bottle gourd) and
Broussonetia papyrifera (paper mulberry) have been identified at archaeological sites elsewhere in New Zealand (Horrocks 2004).
The ancient Chinese and Koreans pounded the bast of paper mulberry (
Broussonetia papyrifera) to make thin sheets of writing paper, while the early Romans produced paper from the inner bark of basswood.
