Buckner, Simon Bolivar, Jr.

Buckner, Simon Bolivar, Jr.

(1886–1945) soldier; born in Munfordville, Ky. Son of the Civil War general, he commanded the U.S. 10th Army in the invasion of Okinawa in April 1945, and was killed in action on June 18 while inspecting frontline positions there.
